During 2018, the global prepaid communications market accounted for 71 percent (5.7 billion) of all mobile connections, and 32 percent ($265 billion) of service revenue. In developing economies, those numbers skew even more heavily towards prepaid. For example, in Africa prepaid service accounts for 94 percent of wireless connections and 80 percent of revenue.

No matter the subscription type, network, device or service, RAID Prepaid Balance Validation (PBV) affords the utmost flexibility in auditing customer account balances. As an auditing tool, RAID PBV offers several advanced features, including monitoring prepaid balance ‘trigger events’, and reconciling customer balances and recharges.

Even when RAID PBV is not the native rating or charging authority for a service, (such as IN-based voice or SMS), it can be integrated with external charging systems and balance managers in order to audit all service consumption, so that there is one account or balance of record to guarantee accuracy and avoid revenue leakage.

Zero-Rating Errors
Due to delays or errors in calculating zero-rated services, subscribers can be penalized by being charged for services that should be delivered for free and if carriers delay applying credits until the end of the promotion, this leads to revenue leakage.
Roaming Delays
When it comes to sending timely charging notifications to prepaid users who are roaming, sometimes network complexity is to blame when things get delayed. Revenue leakage often results if roaming usage is not calculated before the CSP needs to pay the data transit costs to their transit partners.
Marketing Promotions
Depending on the number of users enrolled in a promotion, usage can be in-accurately attributed to base plans rather than to the correct promotional bundle. This leads to errors in prepaid balances, resulting in revenue leakage and/or a negative customer experience.
Time-of-Day Bundles
Voice or data ‘time-of-day’ bundles are sensitive to the accuracy of usage charging, especially immediately before and after the time when the charging rate changes. It is important to ensure a clean and accurate split between charging periods. This requires clocks to be synchronized between the PCEF and the intermediary node in order to avoid revenue leakage.
